Application of garnet micropowder in wear-resistant additives
Garnet micropowder is a kind of natural abrasive, which is made of natural iron aluminum garnet and refined according to modern process technology. The abrasive has the following physical properties:
True specific gravity: 3.8-4.1g/cm3
Bulk density: 1.9-2.1g/cm3
Hardness: MOHS 7.5-8.0
Chloride content <25ppm
Acid solubility <1.0%
Electrical conductivity <83us/cm
Melting point: 1300℃
Garnet micropowder is used as a wear-resistant additive in the industrial field due to its high hardness (Mohs hardness 7.5-8.0) and excellent wear resistance. The application of garnet micropowder as a wear-resistant additive in the industrial field mainly includes the following directions:
1. Resin abrasive reinforcement material
Replace 20%-30% brown corundum in resin abrasives, improve grinding efficiency through its cubic particle shape and sharp edges, and maintain edge durability.
After combining with resin, it forms a high-strength composite material, which is suitable for high-wear-resistant scenes such as precision molds and automobile brake pads.
2. Surface treatment and sandblasting media
When used as a sandblasting material, it can efficiently remove the oxide layer and impurities on the metal surface, improve the surface finish of the workpiece and the adhesion of the coating, and there is no free silicon pollution.
In fine sandblasting scenes (such as precision devices and ancient building restoration), it can avoid thermal damage to the substrate by traditional abrasives.
3. Functional fillers
Added to special tire rubber, its high bulk density (1.9-2.1g/cm3) and wear resistance can be used to extend the service life of the tire.
Used in the wear-resistant layer of building materials such as highway pavements and airport runways to improve compression and wear resistance.
4. Environmentally friendly alternative materials
Compared with artificial corundum such as white/brown corundum, garnet micropowder does not require high-temperature sintering, and the production process consumes less energy; as a natural mineral, it does not contain radioactive elements and is in line with the trend of green manufacturing.
In the field of water jet cutting, it can be reused as a cutting medium to reduce industrial waste.
The true specific gravity (3.8-4.1g/cm3) and chemical stability of garnet micropowder enable it to maintain its performance in high temperature and high pressure environments, further broadening its application scenarios under extreme working conditions.
