What is waterjet cutting sand and its core role in waterjet cutting?
Waterjet abrasive is a specialized abrasive suitable for high-pressure waterjet cutting, garnet sand is most commonly used and sizes are 80mesh 100mesh 120mesh etc with high hardness, sharp edges and strong wear resistance.

The core role of garnet in waterjet cutting can be summarized in the following three points:
1.Enhanced cutting ability:High-pressure water (pressure up to 300-600MPa) itself has low cutting efficiency for hard materials such as metal and stone. When mixed with garnet sand, the garnet impact the work piece surface at high speed with the water flow. Through the dual action of “grinding + impact”, the material structure is quickly destroyed. It can cut metals with a hardness of HRC60 or higher and stone up to 100mm thick.
2.Improve cutting precision:High-quality garnet sand has uniform particle size and regular edges, and can be evenly distributed in the water jet, avoiding chipping and burrs on the cutting surface caused by uneven size. This ensures that the cutting accuracy is controlled within ±0.1mm, meeting the needs of precision machining (such as cutting mechanical parts).
3.Reduce cutting costs:Compared to laser cutting (high energy consumption) and plasma cutting (heat deformation), garnet sand combined with high-pressure water cutting consumes less energy and causes no thermal damage to the workpiece. Furthermore, the garnet sand can be partially reused through a recycling system, reducing material waste and lowering the unit cutting cost.
